Together Topicus and Greijdanus College have created a single unit from all the individual valuable teaching aids used to keep a eye on the development of students: a flexible IT foundation.
Greijdanus College works hard to provide a personalized learning path for every student. They do this at every level, for more than 3,600 students in Zwolle, Meppel, Hardenberg, and Enschede. To achieve this, the school leaves no stone unturned, utilizing everything from personal devices and flexible diaries to digital teaching methods and handy applications. Students have the freedom to develop at their own level and pace. But what if all those tools operate individually and have difficulty working with the student administration system? This leads to a tangled web of data, without oversight and lacking clarity.
Creating a whole from all the separate, valuable learning resources, used to keep a grip on the development of students. A flexible IT foundation with which personal learning can be expanded as desired in the coming years.
Greijdanus' wish called for close cooperation with focus on the classroom and the individuals in it, instead of on the technology. How can the ambitions of the school board be facilitated in the technical field, while including teachers and students in the development? How can coherence be created in education (technology), while leaving enough room for individual interpretation per location?
With the help of an involved steering committee and continuous communication towards teachers and students, we implemented the Somtoday student monitoring system and the Learnbeat learning platform. Somtoday provides insight into the basic administration, performance, and development of the student, and at the same time gives the user freedom of choice. With Somtoday, each Greijdanus location can fill in its own timetables and schedules. In addition, Somtoday offers teachers the space to use hundreds of applications, so that they can make their own choices. Moreover students can fill in their own class hours and optional working time.
Learnbeat provides Greijdanus all available learning tools in one convenient learning environment, with lesson materials, presentations, tests, and assignments that are easy to use, while keeping in mind individual talents and interests. At the same time, the link with Somtoday provides constant monitoring of progress and performance.
Somtoday and Learnbeat offer Greijdanus a flexible IT foundation to further develop personal learning. By uniting the administration at all locations while providing overviews, the workload is considerably reduced. In addition, this strong IT foundation offers the freedom to easily and quickly implement new insights in education, ranging from new teaching methods to new forms of assessment to increased self-management for students.
