Health-RI event on the deployment of AI language models in Dutch healthcare

02 februari 2024

On January 29 and 30, 2024, colleagues from Topicus Division of Healthcare were at HEALTH-RI in Utrecht for a two-day event on LLMs (large language models) in Dutch healthcare. These language models are artificial intelligence systems that can understand and generate natural language. They are increasingly used for a variety of applications in healthcare, such as speech recognition and synthesis, clinical decision support and text mining.

Colleague Emiel Smit on the event: “In various presentations, breakout sessions and panel discussions, we were taken through what AI innovations and applications are already being used in healthcare. It also painted a picture of which direction it is heading, which steps still need to be taken and within which national and international frameworks the use is taking place.”

“Cool to see how LLM can support and relieve the healthcare professional in administrative tasks. With staff shortages and high workloads in healthcare, this is more important than ever. The support leaves the healthcare professional more time for what matters most: the patient. Our credo for the day was: do not fear that development is going too fast, fear that it is not going fast enough. Embrace it!” said colleague Leanne Kuil.

Topicus not only follows the latest AI developments with broad interest, we are also actively applying AI within our own development processes and our products.
